Hemp is not bhang. Hemp is not marijuana. Hemp seed-based food is a recognised, legal FSSAI food category in India — and this page is about exactly that, and nothing else.

If you came here worried this is about intoxicating or recreational products, it isn't — and we'll say that clearly and repeatedly throughout this page.

Why Now

This Is Not a Fringe Idea. This Is an Early Market.

Hemp is no longer only a "bhang" conversation. It has become a legal, wellness, food, farming, and sustainable-industry category, with clear FSSAI standards for hemp seed foods already in place in India. Globally, hemp is expanding fast across food, textiles, fibre, packaging, wellness, and bio-materials. Demand and curiosity around it are rising quickly here at home too, but almost no organised, compliant players exist to guide food businesses into the category safely. That gap is the opportunity. Right now, the businesses that move first — the ones who can legitimately say "we were the first hemp menu in our city" — get a real, defensible first-mover position. That window will not stay open forever.

Myth vs Fact

Let's Kill the 5 Myths That Stop Good Businesses From Even Considering This

What People Assume"Hemp is the same as marijuana, so it's illegal."
The Actual FactLegal hemp seed food and recreational cannabis are entirely different categories under Indian law. We work exclusively in the legal, food-safe, non-intoxicating category.
What People Assume"If I touch hemp, I'll get into legal trouble."
The Actual FactThe risk comes from doing it without guidance. With the right FSSAI route, sourcing, and labelling, hemp is a legitimate, compliant food category — this is precisely what we help you get right.
What People Assume"There's no real market for hemp in India."
The Actual FactThe market is genuinely early, which means less competition and a real first-mover advantage for the businesses who move now.
What People Assume"Hemp is only for medicine or intoxication."
The Actual FactHemp seed is a food ingredient, usable in beverages, bakery, snacks, desserts, and wellness menu items, with zero psychoactive effect.
What People Assume"This is too complicated for a normal business owner to navigate."
The Actual FactThat complexity is exactly why ZinTrove exists. We simplify the legal, sourcing, menu, and training process so you don't have to figure this out alone.

Founder Story

This Didn't Start as a Business Idea. It Started as Grief.

I'm Amruta Shitole, founder of ZinTrove.

When I was around six years old, my grandmother was suffering from cancer. I didn't understand the word yet — I just remember asking my father again and again what had happened to her, and never getting a clear answer. What I saw instead was silence, fear, and helplessness on everyone's face.

After we lost her, my father changed completely. The person who once carried strength for the whole family became quiet and deeply sad. I could see depression on his face before I even understood what the word meant. That phase never really left me — it taught me that losing someone doesn't just take one life from a family, it can take the light out of an entire home.

Years later, I went through my own severe depression. That experience made me understand my father's pain in a way I couldn't have before. It pushed me to search for something real — natural wellness, traditional healing, plant-based solutions. That search led me to hemp, bhang, and cannabis-based wellness, and eventually to studying Ayurveda, where I found references to Vijaya and hemp seeds already sitting inside our own traditional knowledge system. This plant wasn't new to us at all.

When Uttarakhand legally recognised hemp cultivation around 2018, I saw a way to work in this space honestly, legally, and with purpose. That's where Rootsativaa began, followed by The Hemp Cafeteria in Pune — one of India's earliest legal hemp-based cafés.

ZinTrove is what that journey has become: a way to bring hemp into Indian food businesses the right way — legal, responsible, and rooted in something real.

03

Licence & Documentation Support

Guidance and support through whatever documentation your business specifically needs.

04

Menu Integration Plan

Which hemp items to launch first, how to price and position them.

05

Formulations, Recipes & SOPs

Tested product ideas and preparation methods your team can execute consistently.

06

Raw Material & Product Supply

Compliant hemp seed ingredients, premixes, powders, and oils sourced correctly.

Hands-on training so your team isn't caught off guard by a customer's first question.

09

Ongoing Guidance

Continued support as you expand your hemp menu over time.

For serious partners, ZinTrove also offers The Hemp Cafeteria brand name on a royalty basis, under our SOPs, quality standards, and operating conditions. For farmers, cultivators, and industrial hemp/manufacturing enquiries — fibre, textiles, packaging, and hemp-based material innovation — we offer guidance too. Both are discussed on your Clarity Session if relevant to you.
Is This for Your Business?

Let's Be Clear About Who This Is Built For

This is built for you if:

  • ✅ You run or are planning a café, restaurant, hotel, resort, cloud kitchen, bakery, juice bar, QSR, or health food business
  • ✅ You're a smaller setup, tea stall, home baker, smoothie bar, sweet shop, or takeaway counter looking for a real point of difference
  • ✅ You want a genuine first-mover category instead of selling what every other outlet already sells
  • ✅ You're willing to follow compliance properly and train your team, not look for shortcuts
  • ✅ You have the authority to make menu and investment decisions

This is not for you if:

  • ❌ You're looking for recreational cannabis, intoxicating products, or any illegal shortcut

  • ❌ You're expecting a fully passive, zero-training, overnight business
  • ❌ You want to cultivate hemp without eligible land, documents, or willingness to follow state approvals
Proof We've Actually Done This

We've Run the Café. We've Handled the Scrutiny. We're Still Standing.

The Hemp Cafeteria, Pune

One of India's earliest legal hemp-based cafés, operated with real customers, real menu, real compliance in practice.

Rootsativaa

Our earlier hemp food product brand, where we tested hemp seed products years before "hemp" became a wellness trend.

Real Regulatory Scrutiny, Resolved Cleanly

Our business was once wrongly linked to illegal cannabis in a media report. When the Narcotics Department checked in, we presented our licences, permissions, and documentation, and the matter was resolved on the spot — because our compliance was real, not assumed.

Licences & Recognition

Uttarakhand Hemp Cultivation Licence, FSSAI hemp food compliance, and Startup India (DPIIT) recognition.

What to Realistically Expect

No Overnight Promises. Just an Honest Roadmap.

Hemp is a compliance-sensitive category, and licensing and sourcing timelines are usually slower than a typical business-coaching program. Here's what most existing food businesses can realistically expect.

DAY 30

Clarity & Roadmap

Business assessment, feasibility check, legal and compliance clarity, menu opportunity mapping, a documentation checklist, and a project roadmap.

DAY 60–90

Build & Train

Recipe testing, sourcing, SOPs, staff training, menu wording, and customer FAQs — moving toward a soft launch once documents and approvals are in place.

DAY 180

Stabilise & Expand

A stable hemp menu line, customer feedback, refined SOPs, repeat raw material planning, and new product additions or expansion.

Questions Before You Book

Straight Answers, No Spin

Is this actually legal, or could it put my business at risk?

Legal hemp seed food is an entirely different category from bhang, marijuana, or recreational cannabis. Hemp seed, oil, and flour are recognised under FSSAI as food ingredients when sourced, labelled, and handled correctly — which is exactly what we walk you through.

Will hemp food make my customers "high"?

No. We work only with legal, non-psychoactive hemp seed ingredients, positioned as a nutrition and wellness category, and we help you communicate that clearly to your customers too.

Will people even buy this?

This is exactly why menu positioning, staff training, and customer FAQs matter as much as the product itself — and it's built into the program, based on what actually worked in our own café.

Do I need a special licence to sell hemp items?

Your outlet keeps its own existing FSSAI/local licences. We handle the hemp-specific compliance layer — sourcing, labelling, and documentation guidance.

What if my licence application isn't approved?

We don't guarantee government approval — no honest consultant can, in a regulated category like this. We work in two payment stages: 80% at project start, 20% on completion. If an application isn't approved for reasons outside our control, we may refund up to 60% of the fee after deducting documentation, portal, and consultation costs. If the issue is on our end, we correct and reprocess it at no extra charge.

What if my city/state isn't a fit, or my business isn't eligible?

We'll tell you honestly on the call. Not every business or location is a fit for every part of this, and we'd rather tell you that upfront than take your money and find out later.

Most of Your Competitors Still Think Hemp Means Bhang. That Confusion Is Your Opening.

Every month that passes without clarity is a month someone else could move first in your city. This call costs you under an hour, and gives you a straight answer either way.
